Donald Trump’s shortcomings as a candidate for the presidency were evident well before his entry into his first primary campaign; and the evidence to that effect has mounted, month by month. Besides the torrent of lies that he’s propagated since achieving political prominence, accruing to his credit are his two impeachments, guilty verdicts for sexual assault and defamation of E. Jean Carroll (not to minimize the accusations of sexual misconduct by 25 other women), and he still has 91 state and Federal indictments outstanding relating to his role in the January 6 assault on the Capitol, mishandling of classified documents, falsifying business records, and conspiring to overturn election results. Quite the poster child for an aspirant for the presidency.
His base and virtually the entirety of the Republican party establishment have abandoned all principle by (a) ignoring his moral and ethical transgressions, (b) echoing his lies about the last election being stolen, and (c) denigrating our judicial system by amplifying Trump’s unfounded laments about the courts and the justice department being weaponized against him.
Despite the ever-growing list of former Trump aides and appointees who now repudiate him and warn of the danger he poses if he were reelected, the RNC and the Republican leadership in the Congress continue to disregard his…
